2007 Mercury Mariner

Summary:
The Mercury Mariner is being hailed as a stylish, comfortable and impressive SUV. It has also earned the five-star side crash test rating for two years in a row. The Mercury Mariner Hybrid’s styling is likely to be virtually undistinguishable from the standard Mariner, except for chrome “Hybrid” badges on each front door. It will offer a lower priced luxury hybrid SUV alternative to the new Lexus RX 400h.

The 2006 Mercury Mariner was given a low rating by its customers. Perhaps the miniscule safety features played a role. Certainly, it can be said that the features listed herein are minimal. As compared to other 2007 vehicles, the absence of more than 2-4 airbags is glaring. Less focus on the interior and exterior highlights would be well served with enhancements and upgrades in safety features. Notwithstanding its five-star side crash rating, one would interject there should be additional mention as to front crash results as well.

Engine:
The engine is a 2.3L Atkinson-cyce1-4; intelligent 4WD system; front wheel drive; 133 hp at 6000 rpm; electric motor 94 hp at 5000 rpm; and an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. Together, these elements can produce acceleration equivalent to the standard Mariner’s available 3.0-liter V6 engine, but at a fraction of the fuel consumption.

MPG:
32 miles per gallon city; 29 miles per gallon highway

Interior:
The Mariner has a standard leather-wrapped steering wheel; chromed door handles and gear-shift surround; satin-aluminum and Sapele wood grain used in the center console and instrument panel. Seat stitching employs thick French seams for an upscale appearance.

Exterior:
The Mercury Mariner differentiates itself with a monochromatic paint treatment, satin-finish vertical bar grille, unique stacked headlamp elements with integrated fog lights, and horizontal satin-finish “brush bars” on the taillight lenses. Bumpers also get satin-finish inserts, and the standard alloy wheels are unique.

Safety Features:
The standard personal safety system controls dual-stage front airbag deployment levels and safety belt tension in certain frontal accidents providing protection for both driver and passenger. Additional premium safety features are available.

Warranty:
3 years or 36,000 miles is a standard warranty for this vehicle.
