Summary:
The 2007 GMC Yukon is a full-size SUV available in three well-equipped trim levels: base SLE, midlevel SLT and the top-shelf Denali. Most folks should be happy with the well-stocked SLE. Now more refined than ever before, the current-generation GMC Yukon is one of the better full-size SUVs on the market for families who require a roomy, powerful vehicle that doesn’t skimp on utility.
When combined with Active Fuel Management, the GMC Yukon hybrid is expected to enable the SUV to deliver a composite city and highway mpg fuel economy improvement of 25 percent. Using this system on full-size SUVs and pickups is part of GM’s strategy to apply advanced technologies on high-volume, higher fuel-consuming vehicle segments first.
On the downside, as if there were any, although the Yukon’s credentials are solid, one less than stellar feature is its hefty curb weight, which takes a toll on acceleration, braking and handling, particularly under the burden of heavier passenger/cargo loads. Additionally, its third-row seat lacks a fold-flat feature.
Engine:
The Vortec 5.3L V8 engine has 320 hp at 5200 rpm; the torque is 340 cu. Ft. at 4200 rpm, and includes Active Fuel Management. This is standard on 2WD models. You can choose either 2WD or 4WD on both the SLE and SLT. Choosing 2WD nets you a 290-horsepower, 4.8-liter V8, while 4×4s get a standard 320-hp, or a 5.3-liter V8 with a cylinder-deactivation feature that yields a highway mileage rating in the low 20s.
MPG:
16 miles per gallon city; and 22 miles per gallon on highway, and can use both E85 fuel and gasoline.
Interior:
Custom cloth interior; dual-zone climate control; steering wheel audio and cruise control; the GMC Yukon is packed with interior design as well as function. AC; automatic climate control; rearview camera system; AM/FM stereo with MP3 compatible; 6 CD disc changer; DVD entertainment system; navigation system; XM satellite radio; front seat leather and reclining buckets; second row captain’s chairs; and third row bench.
Exterior:
The GMC Yukon will have fog lamps, grille chrome surround; luggage rack with crossbar; side-view mirrors, powered, heated and memory; heated windshield washer system; and 17” polished Aluminum wheels. Exclusive options for the Denali include a heated steering wheel and 20-inch wheels. Fully redesigned for 2007 (along with its Chevrolet Tahoe platform mate), the current GMC Yukon rides on a stiff, fully boxed frame. The ride is smooth and quiet, while handling is surprisingly agile for a 5,500-pound vehicle.
Safety Features:
Head curtain side impact air bags; daytime running lights; OnStar; keyless entry; Tire Pressure Monitoring System; rear parking assistant; remote vehicle start system. Inside, the dash has a sleek, modern design, and materials are attractive and of solid quality. Numerous seating configurations can accommodate anywhere from five to nine passengers, depending on the trim level and options you select.
Warranty:
5 years or 100,000 miles.
